Dr Gupta received his M.D. Community Medicine degree from AIIMS, New Delhi in 2005. He has worked on large scale research projects related to blindness control, influenza, and mental health and has been involved in National Blindness Survey, National Trachoma Survey and National Mental Health Survey in India as a co-investigator. Current interest areas include operational research for blindness control, capacity development in primary eye care; and use of machine learning in screening for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. He has contributed to 76 scientific publications, including two in The Lancet, and these have over 1025 citations.
